Beaver Scouts (6-8)
Beavers are young people aged 6-8 but can join from 5 and three quarters.
Being a Beaver is about:
At Beavers we are all about having fun and making friends, we spend a lot of time learning new skills and going on adventures. As a colony we spend a lot of time outdoors building dens, going on trips and spend nights away on sleep overs.
You will learn lots of new skills coming to Beavers, these could include things like integrity, initiative and the courage to take on new challenges.
Our Beaver colony meet every Wednesday at 17.15 until 18.45.
Our Beaver Colony at the 3rd is one of the most active in South West Cheshire. Although last year’s lockdowns prevented normal meetings for much of the year, we were the first Group to resume activities as soon as restrictions were eased.
During lockdown, our Beavers meet up regularly using a secure version of Zoom and we offer suggestions for activities and badges that they can complete at home. We completed a number of virtual camps and have made loads a delicious snack in the process. We are also ready to resume face-to-face activities in line with regulations as soon as restrictions are eased.
When you join you will have to make a promise, this is a set of words that mean something to you, and you should try and follow them everyday even when not at Beavers. When you make your promise you will say it in front of the rest of the colony, this is called being ‘invested’ into Beavers and it will take place after you have been at Beavers for around 4 weeks, once you’ve had chance to settle in. At Beavers we welcome everyone, no matter their own beliefs and faith, and that is why you can choose the promise that best suits you. Options can be found here.

On your first night at Beavers, you will be taking part in lots of activities, and should just wear something you feel comfortable in.
Eventually, you will get your own Beaver uniform to wear to meetings and on trips and nights away. Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone to feel a part of the Colony. It also gives you a place to show off all the Beaver badges you earn.
For Beavers, the uniform consists of a blue sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats and hoodies. If possible we encourage use of our Scout Shop in Bedford St, Crewe (where all profits support local Scouting), but Uniform (and loads of other things) are also available on-line from Scout Store.
The cost of going to Beavers is £14 a month, starting after a 3 week trial period. This fee covers the cost of the upkeep of the Beaver meeting place and funding all of their badges. Trips, camps and activities that take place away from the usual meeting place are usually charged separately.
Beavers is designed to be an accessible and affordable way for young people to learn lots of new skills through a single membership. Nobody should feel excluded from Beaver activities because of money worries. If they’re concerned about costs, adults should speak to their local leader in confidence, to see what they can do to help. In most cases, support is available to make sure nobody misses out.
